Hoof Capsule Removal

This is just a youtube video of a lady pulling the hoof right off of the disembodied foot of a dead horse, as an educational demonstration of equine anatomy and a lesson in the proper care of hooves. Warning: exactly what it sounds like.

Why do I do this

Why do I watch the thing

Why can't they keep their own poor hooves in trim at least enough to stay healthy

Damn. Laminitis does not sound fun.

I had hand/foot/mouth disease last fall (aka cocksackievirus A), and one of the side effects a month or two later was having entire layers of my fingernails delaminating. I did not care for it, and I don't walk on my fingernails. Ow.

ok, so that was really interesting. There is a neat series of the dissection of the whole hoof, starting here that I'm watching now

Best of the... oh fuck it.

Gaaaaaaaaaaaaah why did I watch?

Really, it was the perkiness and enthusiasm of the woman's delivery as she's swinging the poor hoof and hoof capsule around that really added the dollop of horror.

I'm too scared to watch.

Yeah, after that pimple thing yesterday, there's no fucking way I'm watching this.

Actually, that wasn't so bad. Kind of interesting, actually. I feel a bit bad for the horse, though.

Well, of course I fucking clicked on it.

Also, shut up Goose- this doesn't involve you.

well...

Nature has a solution for everything. A hoof is toenails doing their boot imitation.
damn.

Exactly what it says on the tin hoof capsule.

*Brushes flies away*. Looks like what we have here is a 144p video. That's only about 37 thousand pixels, and what probably happened is that it started out as 720p and the rest of the video *brushes flies off screen* delaminated leaving just this blurry capsule that is literally 1/30th the size of what we consider to be a video in good health and acceptable resolution.

...what is that honking sound in background. Is someone trying to get a trombone unstuck? *brushes flies away*

Is this the Republican debate thread?

No, but I thought the goose had a pretty good answer to the question about international trade agreements.

I've been around the block enough times to watch this video. I've also been around the block enough times not to have to.

Agh, just when I thought yesterday's link to a photo of a newborn foal's hoof was peak gross horse foot.

Guys, what are we even doing? Like, as a community? Are we okay? This doesn't make us seem okay.

Oh, is this where I can link to the ICAR Claw Health Atlas? It's about cattle hooves, and there's no video, but some of the photos are awful.

Disclaimer: I played a small part in this guide's creation.

That was super neat! So was the newborn hoof thing from yesterday. Nature's awesome!

:sad Suriname toad emoji:

I wasn't sure which one this was, so I googled it (you misspelled Surinam apparently), and clicked around and got to this video of their live birth which is pretty amazing. (trigger warning: Trypophobia, aka holes)

In the UK, C4 ran a series of dissections of large animals. They're all good, but I thought the race horse episode was particularly good - I can recommend Inside Nature's Giants (YT)
