Artists in Vietnam Can Create Photorealistic Designs Using Sand (narration in Russian). Commentary from a tv show in English.

About the Phan Thiet Studio

More visual examples (video is in Vietnamese language)

Sand Painting Art was launched in late 2001 in Vietnam by artist, Ms Y Lan. All the sand paintings are done from the key material is natural sand, no staining and no adhesives used in the process of painting pictures, all of them rely on the gravity to compress sand into a solid glass frame to create impressive and attractive paintings.

Mind blown.

Especially by the double sided ones.

The ergonomics looked like a nightmare; leaning over, reaching with your arms up at shoulder height all day - and performing for tourists, of course.

I would like to see a time lapsed example in action.

You buy one of these, a nice tropical seascape, you have it shipped home, unwrap it, and it's JOHN CENA!!

HOLY CRAP. I want one, but I'm so afraid of any shaking and ruining the image.

Also, that one video with the white guy "Tony". His accent isn't bad, but ever since I was young I get weirded out when I hear white people speaking Vietnamese without a heavy accent. Like they're body invaders or something.

Doesn't seem to be a whole lot of information out there about this. Most sites I googled are about painting a flat canvas on the ground with sand, which is not the same thing at all. You have to add "Vietnamese" to the search for anything like this.

However I turned up this flash game which is similar, but yeah that takes way too long for me to do here at work.

Don't watch the rest of that video series, then. I'm kidding, the series is great, and there are a lot of foreigners included specifically because they speak Vietnamese well.
