One of my grandmothers worked in a mill (gives alternate meaning to the roaring 20's) when she was still a child, but did quit work there after she married and went to work as a farmhand/wife. She always thought of it as normal - that's how ingrained the idea of children working was for her. Heck, my dad plowed behind a mule until he left home for the army during the Korean conflict.

I love this project so much. Joe Manning is a gift. If he hadn't done this research, their stories would be lost forever.

Yes, I've been reading the Addie Card series too. It's beautiful, and it has a happy ending - or as much of a happy ending as lives have, anyway.
