Airplane ASMR

Watching landings at Hong Kong's old Kai Tak airport, with expert commentary. Landing a 747 in the middle of a city? No problem. It's not as exciting at the current airport.

So apparently my ASMR trigger is talking about planes in German. I have learned something this day!

Euphemistically, we would say, he is flying in a sporty manner.

My very first landing on an international flight (and third flight ever) was into Kai Tak. It was wild to look out the window and see people drinking tea on their balcony looking *down* on the plane. Pretty intimidating to watch as a passenger!

Landing at Kai Tak was once described to me as an example of something so dangerous, that it's actually quite safe. Everyone who does it is highly-aware of the danger, and in a state of super-concentration, that nothing ever happened despite the risk.

Wow, I didn't know PilotsEYE.tv had old stuff like this.

They've certainly upgraded over the years, now they're putting multiple HD GoPros right in the flight deck. I know I've posted this before, but this Lufthansa A380 landing at SFO still is amazing to watch.

Dig through their channel and you find lots of interesting stuff. Or, better yet, they sell DVDs of entire flights. When Germans have a hobby, they really get into what they're doing. Respekt.

Kind of reminds me of flying into [the former] National- DCA- banking down the river.
Not as much wind there usually, though.
Nice commentary. Sounds like a pilot. Couldn't go back to check.

His narration made me think of golf announcers (particularly from the early 80s - golf was always on the TV in my house as a kid), so it had a very nostalgic quality.

I like the whole "I wouldn't have done that...Oh! I guess he's fine because he landed it" thing he does.

Aw, dammit - both videos are now showing copyright takedown notices.

Am I the only one getting:
"Kai Tak - Rare Hong Kon..." The YouTube account associated with this video has been terminated due to multiple third-party notifications of copyright infringement.

Sorry about that."
...or just the first?

talking about planes in German

It was all German, until suddenly... "HEAVY BIRD!"

Must be some sort of technical term.
