WHY CAN'T I FIND HER ETSY STORE

I was expecting some kind of recurrence of the NRA's previous support for gun control motivated by Black Panthers carrying rifles.

This... was a complete surprise.

Why at 2:54 is her producer's face blurred? Did they forget to get her consent?

My first thought would be for her safety and protection from enraged gun owners.

OK mission accomplished, I'm actually disappointed at a link to Samantha Bee after reading the title. You did it.

Isn't the "don't resell the costume" rule a violation of the right of first sale? How is that legal?

She just needs to hang around unraged gun owners, she'll be safe then.

I was shocked, shocked, I tell you to discover that the NRA does not always live up to their own ideals:
The National Rifle Association’s annual convention kicks off in Nashville this week, with 70,000 people expected to participate in the three-day gathering.

Attendees can expect to find the usual NRA fare and exhibitors at the 350,000-square-foot Music City Center, but they shouldn’t expect to find functioning weapons. The Tennessean reports this week on the “multilevel security plan,” which includes an important safety measure: “All guns on the convention floor will be nonoperational, with the firing pins removed, and any guns purchased during the NRA convention will have to be picked up at a Federal Firearms License dealer, near where the purchaser lives, and will require a legal identification.”
But certainly the stalwart Republican presidential candidates would not dream to deny people their Constitutional rights to open carry firearms at the Republican National Convention later this year? Nope, no guns allowed at the venue except for those carried by the Secret Service and other law enforcement. They're citing "security concerns" when of course the safest convention in the history of the GOP would be the one where everybody is armed. Hence this petition on change.org to allow open carry at the event. The initiative has had, ahem, a mixed reception among politicians and 2nd amendment advocates.

Contract law? I think animal breeders use it for that all the time.

Haven't had a chance to verify it, but I was told the open carry Republican convention thing was started by lefties who were trolling the Republicans. I'm terrified enough to be heading to Cleveland this summer, honestly. A crewmates asked me yesterday if the Arab speaking Arabic on a plane story wouldn't freak me out too, my answer was that I was much more afraid of a city full of armed gun rights fools shooting each other while funnin' around.

My favourite part of the petition is where open carry activists are angry at the guy who posted it, but can't really articulate why, as "open carry logic" indicates that the goal and framing of the petition is correct.

I signed that petition. I'm probably on a list, now.

Isn't the "don't resell the costume" rule a violation of the right of first sale? How is that legal?

This isn't a matter of copyright law, it's basic property and contract law. The costumes are presumably sold with a no-resale clause. There may be some variation in the enforceability of that clause from state to state, but it's common enough in the general sense. Or, there may be a more elaborate mechanism by which the costumes are rented, or lent out to organizations paying a program fee, etc.

Anyway, the real obstacle here is that no organization with an NRA-supplied costume is going to be willing to sell it to Samantha Bee.

From what I understand, as I've asked about it, the no guns at convention rule was put down by Secret Service. I don't know how accurate this is, I just know this is what they're telling campaign staff.

I'm still kind of confused by this. So essentially you can create a resale contract that would overwrite the right of first sale? I remember this issue going to the SCOTUS in 2013 and was upheld. But that had to do with books, and reseller vs publisher. But wouldn't that apply here unless the contract is that strong?

Is the costume sold, or "rented" without a return date for a flat fee? I think that might make a difference.

Without getting too deep, because there's going to be some kind of licensing of the mascot incorporated in the sale, presuming it is an outright sale. It's not directly comparable to a copy of a book or movie.
