Because 2016 hasn't sucked enough already: Michelle McNamara, respected crime writer and wife of Patton Oswalt, has died at the age of 46.

She was, among other things, the founder of True Crime Diary. The couple have a 7-year-old daughter.

This post was deleted for the following reason: Hey, this is terrible news, but folks have been asking us to set the bar a little higher with obits, so maybe let's wait on this and see if more info or tributes etc come out in the coming days. -- LobsterMitten

What the fuckety fuck is going on this year?

I just got a notification for Patton Oswalts new stand up special, and then this. It's gonna be bitter sweet watching it.

I just heard about this and I am having trouble figuring out why I'm taking it so hard.

Maybe it's because she was my age and people my age are supposed to be too young to die. Maybe it's because losing my own wife would be so devastating I can't even imagine it. Maybe it's because they have a kid too and I can't fathom suddenly having to raise my son by myself. Maybe it's because I love Oswalt as a comedian and a writer and I'm wondering how this will affect his act. Maybe all of the above.

I wish him and their daughter well and I hope some day they can find peace and joy again some day.
