Boeing 307 Stratoliner lands in Puget Sound If you're in downtown Seattle, take a look across the Sound towards Alki - somebody's restored Boeing Stratoliner is semi-submerged near shore. Hope everybody's okay. Anybody know who's plane this is?

Evidently it's Boeing's, and the last of it's kind.

Wow, that sucks, to put it mildly. Hope they can pull it out before it gets too destroyed by the water.

Beautiful aircraft, what a shame. So streamlined - maybe it was trying to swim with the Kalakala?

I used to always think they were kidding when they said "In the event of a water landing..."

You would think that someone would tell us which of the ten originals (Pan Am, TWA, Howard Hughes) this one is. Oh well. It sure is pretty.

According to this story, everyone was fine (only 4 people aboard). I'm glad to know that if I'm not tuned to the radio I can count on MeFi to keep me informed of goings-on in my own city.

I'm right across the water (on the peninsula) and heard nothing about it until I checked Metafilter... you go, MeFi! :)

My apartment looks west over Elliott Bay. There's a building in the way, so I can't actually see the site of the crash, but there's been a Coast Guard helicopter flying by over there for a few hours now. Now I know why...

Coelecanth, the plane was originally delivered to Pan Am in 1940.

I work on the corner of Elliott and Vine. I was wondering what all the fuss was about. Oh well, I'm home now.
