Charming eccentric or tolerated local boogyman?
All drawings have already been drawn. All paintings have already been painted. What was there left for me to do?"
Miroslav Tichý had a homemade camera with which he took nearly a hundred photos a day.
Most of these thousands of images were of unsuspecting women. The photographs are puzzling. They are unfocused, not well developed and damaged by weather and careless handling.
Some more of his oeuvre.

Creepy-ass serial harasser.

I'm not sure about linking to photographs of 'unsuspecting women' in their underwear and bathing suits...

Actually, I am sure. Flagged.

Of his technical methods, Tichy has said, “First of all, you have to have a bad camera”, and, “If you want to be famous, you must do something more badly than anybody in the entire world.”

Were truer words ever spoken?

For better or worse, Tichy's story isn't new, and his "art" has been circulated for three decades; Metafilter won't play any kind of measurable role in drawing attention to photos that have long been available. I think there's a hell of a conversation about exploitation, the male gaze and artistic value to be had about Tichy's photographs, because they're profoundly wrong and abusive and he still has this kind of recurring cultural impact. Why that is the case, and what that says about the purportedly-progressive arts community, is something I'd love to see Metafilter talk about.

What's next? The Art of the Upskirt retrospective?

It's all nonconsensual, so I think the question "artist or predator?" answers itself.
