I have several complaints about the music, but I really like the ersatz-voxel approach. I'd be curious to hear how much the noise from the drones intrudes.

Yes, for sure if you're going to do a shamisen East-meets-West, old-meets-new thing, the way to do it is like this (warning: video contains cartoon mermaids not wearing any seashells or whatever)

Really, the music in the video is more or less just like the Yoshida Brothers' stuff — Tsugaru shamisen mixed with synths isn't really a new thing. That Hifana video is pretty cool, too — it's like some sort of modern house music take on Okinawan stuff, and I am just SUPER diggin' it. Kinda reminds me of the later pre-revival DDR games' soundtracks.
