Its peer review, but not as we know it Jim

In the sciences, the Ignoble prizes (very previously) highlight unusual or trivial achievements in scientific research. Twitter user @real_peerreview offers the same service for research in the humanities and Social Sciences.

Did you know that pilates is racist?. That Girl-Scout cookies are a neo-liberal means of conditioning and enforcing hegemonic gender roles? and do you understand the "hobosexual"?

It is probably a measure of how steeped I am in the social sciences, but I don't see anything at all weird about the Girl Scout cookie one.

Hmmm. The real_peerreview account seems to have some hangups about, among other things, feminism. I understand that feminist scholarship seems goofy to the kind of people who use SJW as a pejorative and cite Christina Hoff Sommers, but that doesn't mean that the research actually is goofy.

That Girl-Scout cookies are a neo-liberal means of conditioning and enforcing hegemonic gender roles?

That will come as a huge surprise to all those people who were yelling at Girl Scouts because they were liberals funding abortion through cookie sales.

It's not surprising that PhD theses are strange and niche-focused. This seems like "SJWLOL amirite."

It is a complex idea, that the Girl Scouts could challenge oppressive gender systems in some ways and reinforce them in others, but luckily people with PhDs are generally able to deal with that level of complexity.

I wish the paywall let me find out why the leg rolls are racist ideology in pilates.

Yeah, I find the entire twitter account pretty gross in a "POLITICAL CORRECTNESS GONE MAD???" kind of way.

This doesn't feel at all the same as the ig-nobel prizes to me.

Yeah this was popping up on, like, economist Twitter a few weeks back and I mostly read this as tedious anti-humanitiesism
