Julia Serano on How to Write a "Political Correctness Run Amok" Article: (sl Medium)
Even more importantly, whatever you do, *never* acknowledge the fact that protests, petitions, and social media comments critiquing the Person of Stature also constitute acts of free speech. This is Pandora’s Box #1 — whatever you do, do not open it! Because if both the protesters and the Person of Stature are seen as having free speech, then this becomes a “marketplace of ideas” issue, and your readers will then feel entitled to make up their own minds as to who is in the right and who is in the wrong. And you can’t let this happen, because you have already decided this for them!

This post was deleted for the following reason: Hey, sorry, just to crib taz's deletion reason from another recent posting of this: Julia Serano is great, but this is an opinion piece from Nov '15 that was addressing a lot of current articles and issues happening right around that time that we discussed here in depth (including this link), and we don't really need to repeat that wholesale. -- LobsterMitten

Julia Serano is brilliant. One of my favorite philosophers on queer, trans, and societal topics, a category in which I would also include Sarah Schulman, Mattilda Bernstein Sycamore, and Charlotte Cooper.

It's vaguely interesting to me that "Political Correctness" always "runs amok," when running amok is a term (generalized from the Maylay term) almost always applied to men, often uncertain in status, who burst into violence after a period of brooding. The sort of brooding, perhaps, that white cis men feel when their unquestioned "central status" is threatened by the less-privileged, who, while they have plenty of cause, almost never run amok in the West. It's a puzzle.

Oh, wait, it's not.
