Shrimp for scale.

Man, you'd need 8 hands to look after, what... quatrillion-tuplets. Do cephalopods share parenting duties (they're s'pose to be so smart and all)?

Lotsa babies! Low survival rate?

Isn't it the case that octopus babies strike out alone at birth, and show all of that intelligent behavior that they each have to build from scratch on their own? And they don't live long, so they have to adapt and explore fast. I'm developing the conviction that we should think twice before harvesting them.

I highly recommend The Soul Of An Octopus to anyone who's thinking twice about octopus harvesting...

So cute! I was afraid that the shrimp was there to eat them, but not the case.

Octopus reproduction is odd, and a little sad (Mama isn't going to last long after the babies hatch). The survival rate mentioned in the article is 1%, although not a lot is known about early octopus life. Fascinating creatures.

There's something mesmerizing about those shots where the whole screen is full of bulbous eggs swaying back and forth.
