None of those boxes is from Original Ray's, so I do not believe.

Pizza with LED topping is a thing? Huh.

Some of those boxes are clearly empty. The box is a lie!

During the last Superbowl, Twitter user @fart was retweeting tweets by angry customers who were tweeting photos of the horrific looking pizzas they were delivered by Domino's and Papa Joohn's. Like, pizzas delivered with a slice removed, pizzas that were obviously transported with the box held vertically, pizzas that were dropped upside down by the driver and still delivered, etc.

It was one of the best days on Twitter.

Just to stay on topic: I like these photos.

I used to deliver pizza, back in the early 90's. Sometimes I 'd get to a house and the family would have a kid almost about to die from pizza excitement and happiness. I think some of them thought I was going to be bringing the Ninja Turtles. It's weird to think about those children now, full-grown and entombed in some conference room on some corporate campus.

The photos are amazing and I love them, but that Elsa (I think) costume in the first one is terrifying to me.

If you click through at the bottom, you can see the Reverse Shots of a pizza ripping people in half whose innards are strangely absent yet glowing.

what would pizza use as a tearing mechanism?

I'm getting more of a Kiss Me Deadly vibe.

I know I've seen somewhere a critical review of the "light coming from within the treasure chest" trope. Repo Man, Raiders of the Lost Ark, it all dates back to some silent 1920s film or something. Ring a bell for anyone?

I made an FPP featuring those scenes. Earliest one I found was Kiss Me Deadly from 1955.

the real enlightenment was the pizza we ate along the way

Thanks, griphus, it was Kiss Me Deadly I was trying to remember. Now that I look at these examples I'm struck by how the light emanating from the box is a sign of menace, dangerous power, terror. I knew it looked odd in these pizza photos, it's because they're all happy their pizza slice has been decorated with radioactive salumi.

lots of red pepper flakes or maybe some hot sauce

how can you be terrified of a numinous power beyond your comprehension that could destroy you and everything you know if you wield it unwisely when it's topped with THOSE LITTLE CURLY-UPPY CRISPY PEPPERONI OMG
