Lady of the Shard is a space goddess love story.
Autostraddle:
Autostraddle:
The tale becomes an epic romance and an epic battle for power that feels like it’s taking up a comic much larger than this one.Comics Beat, on Lady's novel format:
Each chapter is a single vertical scroll, the sequences stacking and forming seamlessly to tell the next step of the Acolyte’s story without missing a beat. (...)The creator, Gigi D.G., also writes and illustrates the webcomic Cucumber Quest (previously). She talks more about Lady on her Twitter.
Unlike the luscious and rich color palettes seen in Gigi’s ongoing Cucumber Quest comic, Lady of the Shard very deliberately limits itself to only two or three colors at a time – carefully delineating the context for each, a beautiful and trusting way to guide the reader along with the Acolyte.
The Old God totally looks like Sean Young in her famous days.

Read a little so far. She's quite honest about the comic being not optimized for mobile devices, and I'm at a conference, so I've got it bookmarked for later. It might work better with a tablet in landscape, but it's pretty eye-straining on a phone.
Anyway, I found the art clunky and hard to parse at first, but, after about 3 pages, my "comics sight" fell into place, and the pages flow really well, and the characters are appealing and the world-building fun, interesting, and doled out with a light hand. In short, it's well worth pushing yourself for a few pages to see if it grows on you; I'm looking forward to picking it up
Again once I get home.

Finished it, on a tablet in landscape mode, where it worked pretty well. I liked it, both for the story and the art (the use of color is especially interesting, as others have noted). I kind of wish that it had been more fleshed out and extended, but the shorter form also has its charm.

This was nice. It took me a couple chapters to realize the acolytes had a mask over their mouth, and that she wasn't just drawing them like South Park Canadians.
