Det skal godt gjøres å spise bare en

Veggen ("The Wall") is the first in a series of eight Norwegian advertisements that show us the tragic consequences of a miraculous discovery.

Smash - lightly salted corn snacks coated with milk chocolate - is hugely popular in Norway. Their slogan is "Det skal godt gjøres å spise bare en" - "It would be hard to just eat one."

1. Veggen ("The Wall")
2. Perlekjede ("Pearl Necklace")
3. Nabo ("Neighbour")
4. Ludde (Ludde is the dog's name)
5. Flaggstang ("Flagpole")
6. Frokost ("Breakfast")
7. Tissen ("Willy")
8. Barnehage ("Kindergarten"/"Nursery")

(YouTube playlist of all eight)

In any language, that wall is cool. Want me a chocolate wall.

I definitely need a translation of the dialogue on "Willy."

It's pretty much:

"Sondre, you won't do that."
"No."
"No."
"Actually, I won't."

(So given how they claim that Smash is a purely Norwegian invention from 1988, how much saltier are these than Fazer's Kina from 1961?)

Kina are puffed wheat and not salted, so although they're similar, they're not the same.

Where did that second monitor go?

The ones in the yellow packaging is wheat, the red is puffed corn. Agree it's not a lot of salt in them, though, even if it appears in the ingredients list :-)

My favorite is all the little kids going, "Rubert? Rubert?"

Cadbury attempted a Smash clone recently, but it was really poor in comparison - "Crunchums".

"Rubert" is my amateur transliteration of whatever name they are actually saying.

Feels like this should be on Adult Swim at 4am.

Pretty close, it's actually just Robert as pronounced by Norwegians!

I'm not sure the context in which these are shown, but I like that unless you see the first one, the rest are...weird.

Here are a few older smash ads, playing to the same theme (hard to just eat one), but not in this series.

"What's this?"
Samples
"Uten armer"/"Without arms" ("Can I take your smash?" "If you want to be without arms." ..... "I'll take it.")

So weird and hilarious and surreal. I love it.

Are these in chronological sequence? In that case, how did she get back her arms?

Turns out they do make chocolate and peanut butter flavored ones.

Yes, I was mystified by the reappearance of the arms too.

I've been eating Bugles on-and-off since they first came out in 1966 (Happy 50th Anniversary! You're slightly older than Star Trek!), but have never seen all the flavors listed in the Wikipedia article (citation needed indeed!)

But I'm currently semi-addicted to the Salted Caramel variety... smaller bag than other flavors, but they're dipped in a very crunchy caramel flavored coating. If I had a wall of that, I'd never leave home.

Correct link for the "What's this?" ad.

Also, I'm stuck on the ZZ top reference...

Well, given the inventor story:

A confectionary developer in Nidar wanted to try out the combination of salt and sweet knowing that people eat chocolate and salty snacks together. He bought a vast amount of different types of salty snacks and dipped them in our milk chocolate.

I'd guess that this is exactly how they started.
