The Shape of Lifeis a new PBS series produced by the Sea Studios Foundation. It tells the evolutionary tale of the rise of the animal kingdom and premieres tonight with Origins, the attempt to identify the first animal that gave rise to all other animals. The website also helps answer the eternal question, can snails smell?

Cool! Thanks for the heads-up!

I already bought the "Evolution" series on DVD (which was excellent, by the way). I might wait for this series on DVD also -- I hate watching multipart series on TV because I always end up missing one part or another due to scheduling conflicts.

Thanks for the snails smell link. I'm gonna buy me a big bottle of vinegar and create a moat around my garden with it. Damn snails.

I watched the first installment last night, and was disappointed. Do they really need to dumb everything down THAT much? The narration was extremely repetitive, and I found much of the cgi stuff gratuitous. It seemed as though it was aimed at a 5th grade science class.

groundhog, I agree completely. I was dissapointed and annoyed. Episode 1 seemed like a promo for the rest of the series, but I thought episode 2 was a bit better. I'll give it another chance next week but I'm not very hopeful.
