Traffic Delays usually aren't this amusing

Washington's Department of Transportation (WSDOT)is making the best of event-related traffic closures/slow downs/traffic by unleashing their best staff artists on Twitter.

A sample of their work:

Last Weekend was a busy one in the Seattle area

Road Closures in Vancouver, WA for the 4th

Statewide outlook for the 4th

Of course, WSDOT also posts info about collisions, construction areas, safety tips, and bunnies.

Someone get that person some kind of tablet input device. Although judging by the whiteboard it might not help.

The WSDOT twitter feeds were my constant companions when I was commuting from the Eastside to Seattle (by bus usually). They also appreciate it when you tweet them photos/reports from the road.

Of course there was that time two years ago where they put Douchebag Hats on all the traffic coming from West Seattle and those people were predictably sourpusses about it.

WSDOT Twitter has always been awesome. My favorite:
"Pssst. ...need a couch?"
and the follow-up.

Wow this is the best twitter! Must be a fun job to post this kind of stuff all the time.

@WSDOT's running commentary on traffic incidents are always riveting, often brilliant. Just a few classic examples:
The lost chicken coop
House blocks lanes on I5
Bieber Day (reverse chronological order--scroll from bottom to top)
Traffic apocalypse
Fishy delays
The wrong-way bus fiasco

Last weekend was a shit show in Seattle traffic: the Mariners, the Sounders, Obama, Pride.

All of which made the big "PIE -->" in Capitol Hill hilarious, until I looked closer and saw that it was a rainbow colored "PRIDE". Still, I would love it if WDOT would indicate in real time all the places I could get PIE.

Did I mention I was reading WDOT Twitter feed while taking light rail to the Mariners game?

I've always liked the bear one.

I love their people, and I think they run one of the best public service organization Twitters out there.
