First Lady Michelle Obama joins James Corden for a drive around the White House grounds.

Missy Elliot joined them to sing the 'This Is For My Girls' charity single released by Mrs. Obama this past March. The track (read the lyrics) is the theme to the First Lady's "Let Girls Learn" initiative, a U.S. government project aimed at giving the 62 million adolescent girls worldwide who are not attending school access to a quality education.

Please don't leave us, FLOTUS. Can we just keep Michelle after the election? If Hillary wins in November, can we get Michelle in 2020 for the new tradition?

We have a newborn who objects to not being in my uterus anymore, and would strongly prefer to be held 24/7.

This video makes my morning SO MUCH BETTER.

I mean, the parts with just Corden and FLOTUS are great enough, but then Missy shows up! And they do Get Ur Freak On! And just, oh my God, the sheer delight on Missy's FACE, and the way she leans forward between the seats and is like OMG I'M ACTUALLY PERFORMING WITH FLOTUS and

oh wow.

If you had told me when I was a dorky 9th grader singing along to Get Ur Freak On in secret when my parents weren't home (because they would have told me to stop listening to the "garbage") that a decade and a half later our country's First Lady would be singing along to it too (WITH Missy Elliott and fucking owning it), I absolutely wouldn't have believed you.

Anyway, here I am tearing up at Carpool Karaoke, of all things.

I can't remember who pointed this out on Twitter, and I'm sure there's a more nuanced way of putting this, but one of many sad things about the Obamas leaving the White House is going to be the loss of such a visible platform for the promotion of black American culture. Like, Kendrick Lamar and Janelle Monae performed at the White House 4th of July barbecue. Michelle Obama sang Get Ur Freak On with Missy Elliott and dropped (in what seemed like an authentic but still Dorky Mom way because she is a Dorky Mom!) references to Lemonade. Common came to the most recent state dinner. I just can't imagine what other politician or First Family that we'll see in the next eight, 12 years will be able or willing to do stuff like this. I'm not saying that Clinton should even try - this sort of thing is not her wheelhouse - but man.

This is what I love about the Obamas--when the are doing the off-duty-but-on-duty type of stuff, they just seem like normal middle-aged parents. Over the last eight years, we've seen Michelle roll her eyes and one of her husband's jokes, POTUS throwing the Vulcan salute and other stuff I can relate to.

/OK, I'm a dorky dad. That's how I roll.

The Clintons and Obamas should agree that, since Bill isn't going to need a First Husband Twitter handle or anything anyway, Michelle can continue being FLOTUS for the next eight years.

Michelle dunking in the background while people are talking about health and nutrition is still one of my favorite things to come out of the Obama administration.

Imagine what it's like where just sitting in a car and rocking out is a privilege. Even then, they were followed by an SUV full of Secret Service as they drove around the White House grounds...

I HAVE NEVER BEEN PANDERED TO SO EFFECTIVELY BEFORE

One of the things that makes it such outstandingly effective pandering is that I feel that I am not being pandered too. It probably is a calculated move, but in my heart of hearts I really believe that Corden called up Michelle Obama and said "Hey, want to do carpool karaoke with me?" and she said "OMG, I love that show! Sure. Can we do Missy Elliot songs?" and he said "Girlfriend, I will get Missy Elliot in the car" and it all kind of went from there.

I believe it's real even though I know it's partially a lie. I don't care.

One of my favorite things about the past 8 years has been watching the Kennedy Center Honors, and seeing Michelle straight-up rock out during a lot of the performances. Absolute highest point - when Snoop Dogg rapped a mashup of "Cantaloop Fantasia" and "Gin and Juice" during the Herbie Hancock induction and they had a shot of Michelle sitting there next to Carlos Santana and she was raising the roof.

Everytime that my negative brain fools me into thinking that we are in the worst timeline I'm going to remind myself of things like this.

As far as I know the 22nd Amendment only refers to the presidency, I would totally support Michelle being FLOTUS for Life assuming that her long term plans aren't being POTUS.

But yeah let her keep expanding the white house vegetable garden to include the entire white house lawn.
