Echo's Rift

Raised by a paranoid father in the foothills of California's Sierra Mountains, 15 year old Eliot Emory has grown up in isolation with records and VHS tapes as his only connection to the outside world [...] But when his father mysteriously vanishes, Eliot is propelled into a world far greater than he ever imagined...and far more perilous.

So begins Echo's Rift, a graphic novel by Jennifer Potter. New pages featuring her beautiful artwork appear 3x a week. It's 3 months and 35 pages old so far, and 'spans many worlds and encounters monsters, aliens, telepaths, mad scientists, and the occasional adorable bunny.'

I'm not hugely into graphic novels, but I'm hooked on this one and was surprised I couldn't find it on Metafilter already.

Nice art. Also I'm a sucker for this kind of story. Thanks for the post, bluefly.

I like the artwork, I'm intrigued by the story. I really don't need yet one more thing to occupy my time right now but I'm hooked.
Thanks bluefly!

Even before I started reading the comic, I could tell I'd enjoy it because I know and love most of the other comics on the sidebar. (Heck, I myself FPP'd both A Redtail's Dream and Stand still, Stay Silent) Thanks bluefly, you posted this at just the right moment when the bunny turned into a [REDACTED].

Very cool! I love the artwork, and the colors are particularly gorgeous. I'm interested in seeing how the story develops.

Sometimes these kinds of absolutely ambitious super-high-quality web comics work really well, and sometimes they stall. "Outsider" ran very regularly right up to about a year and a half ago, and now it's rarely updated.

On the other hand, "Dresden Codak" is updated about every three weeks, but he's been staying pretty close to that schedule. (It's supposed to be two weeks, but I'll settle for three.)

There's a serious risk of artist burnout. I hope this one doesn't succumb to that.

Totally not fair to post this right as the action hits.

What a nice surprise to find my friend's work on the Blue today! Figured many of you fine people would dig it.

Good stuff. Normally prefer the printed page, but I'll take a well-written and well-drawn story anywhere I can get it.

Only commenting because on scanning thought it was going to be an Alexa link. Yikes products.

I always love these posts because I admire the artform so much, especially when it is so beautifully executed like this one is. But I inevitably end up disappointed in myself because I know there is just no way I'm going to follow this. I cannot cope with a story that is -- by necessity, obviously -- doled out 50 words at a time. (I don't have the attention span and as a reader I don't find it a satisfying endeavour.)

But it's beautiful and what's there is interesting, so if someone could just stick up a Google reminder to repost this when it is complete in like, three years, that'd be great...

I always suspicious of that bunny. Can't trust 'em.

But beautiful, and damn the artist publishes pages quickly. I'm going to see if I can get it added to The Webcomic List.
