Tiny Feminists is a set of three very short films about three very short feminists: Juliette, Yasmine, and Linda are three middle schoolers who are mad as hell and ready to take down the patriarchy. Created and directed by Yulin Kuang (previously on MeFi: the Lizzie Bennet Diaries).

Oh my god. This. This. This is everything i want for my girls. Down to the margaritas. I get so mad at the pink-splosion and fucking barbie aisle and "boys will be boys" shit. This is total perfection.

Goddamn patriarchy.

This is perfect, and I am going to find my 8-y.-o. right now so she can get inspired.* Thank you!

* The other day, she told me that she's never going to be interested in princesses or makeup or dresses. "I'm just gender-non-conforming for my age," she added. Tiny Feminists, you have a new recruit to the cause.

I am glad people are enjoying this! I posted it because it's something I wish had existed when I was that age. I was That Kid who chose "feminism" as a speech topic in elementary school.*

I also loved the racial diversity among the girls--as a little [half] Asian girl, I almost never saw myself represented in media.

*How I thought I might cover that topic in three minutes, I'm not sure. And no, my parents did not put me up to it--I honestly have no idea where I had come across the concept--probably in one of the age-inappropriate books my parents let me read. Also, I am sure you'll be shocked to learn I was a not-very-popular source of bemusement for my classmates, whose topics were slightly more manageable things like "friendship" and "hockey".

The other day my 12 year old daughter asked to take a class at a local maker space on how to create your own YouTube channel. Yulin Kuang and her Tiny Feminists just earned her a yes answer.
