The Insult

You know Mac, the beach weakling. Now read his new adventures. Based on the often spoofed old comic book ad, The Insult puts "Mac" facing a change in lifestyle after his unfortunate incident on the beach. Watch him become an Improv Performer, a Vinyl Collector, a Jedi Knight, a Tudor King, or a Muppet. (via).

(also, I'm wondering what is the Insult that made a MeFite out of Mac)

Not that these Dinosaur Comics-y takes aren't amusing (they are, I laughed!), but I do feel a sudden urge to re-read Flex Mentallo.

This ... is ... incredible. It's like what the Internet was made for. I think I need to gamble a stamp and do the whole Charles Atlas course just to get enough finger strength to be able to favorite this as many times as it deserves.

I can't find it now, but there's a great one from long-vanished Warhammer Fantasy webcomic The Secret Lives of Mobs wherein Mac decides to skip the months of exercise and simply gives himself to Chaos instead, slaughtering the people on the beach in the name of Tzeentch with his powers.

"This is for stealing for STEALING FOCUS"

Almost every panel of the improv one ("is there a place for young white dude in improv?") made me laugh out loud.

But is he a very manly Muppet?

Did somebody do a parody comic where Mac came out as trans, went back to the beach in a bikini and ended up seducing the bully while the catty former girlfriend was left alone? Or did I just dream that?

It's kind of amazing how many comics that old Charles Atlas ad has spawned (the linked one, Flex Mentallo, Luther Strode, etc) and how varied they are.

National Lampoon did its bit in Popular Evolution if you can find a copy. Ah, hell, just read this:

"The January 1974 issue of the satiric magazine National Lampoon was dedicated to animals: Pets, circus, wild beasts, evolution, law, etc. A fake advertisement in the article ‘’Popular Evolution’’, a parody of the magazine Popular Mechanics, presents in the three-stage comic strip manner a Charles Atlas-style commercial. A little skinny mouse suffers the humiliation of being kicked at the beach by a bully, some sort or medium-size carnivore. Little mouse, goes home, kicks a chair, fills the form and sends it to Mr. Charles Darwin, Galapagos Islands. “After a few millions years of evolutionary exercise” little mouse has developed fangs, and ugly scary face, wings, amongst other attributes; goes back to the beach, bites the bully predator in the neck, Count Dracula style and is declared the “heroe of the habitat” by the admiring females. Leider the issue is out of print and cannot be seen online anywhere." (FN)
