"By elevating the otherwise ordinary experience of eating breakfast into a social event, even if that socializing is all digital, the solitude of many breakfasts becomes more bearable." Breakfast on Instagram Is Magical and Insanely Popular, by Alana Massey for Extra Crispy.

The solitude of breakfast can often be one of the best parts.

Wow, I'm usually barely coherent and certainly not fit for human society at breakfast. Morning people, sheesh...

I think we need to make the exception and have the tag for this thread. Breakfast pictures! I can live vicariously through y'alls efforts while I have my usual, Diet Coke.

Seems like this would be a perfect post in which to enable images.

Also, if anyone wants an artfully lit shot of my generic Cocoa Pebbles, just let me know.

Are these photos actually taken during breakfast time though? I'm already inordinately proud of myself when i can crack an egg into a frying pan and chuck an english muffin into the toaster without setting anything on fire in the morning. Sometimes I go to the effort of baking muffins or something on weekends just so I can roll out of bed and cram calories into my mouth straight from the fridge, no utensils or plates or preparation required. There are a lot of muffin crumbs on the floor in front of my fridge

I'm not sure that my standard breakfast of black coffee and a Clif Bar (Crunchy Peanut Butter) is all that photogenic but maybe I should see that as a challenge to my photography skills.

People's tendency to blog about breakfast was why my long-ago Live Journal was called Hate and Pancakes. Now that's the name of my Tumblr, which features mostly art and cute animals, and no pancakes.

im surprised i can even operate my aeropress (inverted method, no less) before my first cup of coffee, much less take an artfully composed photo of an artfully presented breakfast

I have been party to meals where the presentation and documentation were paramount, so much so that the food was cold before it could be consumed.

Allow me to share my new favorite thing on AliExpress.

Basically, who wants to form the Pink Ladies of brunch with me?

I don't trust them, not at all.

Why do people post their morning meals on Instagram? The explanation is pretty simple, I think. When people get up in the morning (OK, not all of you, and not those who have to hurry to get to work), a desire to connect to the world of humans arises. For many of us, Facebook, Instagram, or Metafilter is a way to do this. So: "Look at my food! As humans, we eat together! But since I'm in this modern city thing, Instagram provides me with a shortcut to this primal food-hug."

Now, I'm a big Instagram fan, but, like the article points out, I'm also a boomer who has no desire to post pics of my meals. Especially breakfast, which is either oatmeal or breakfast burritos (I live in the Southwest), neither of which is remotely Instagrammable.

I think I will start instagramming my breakfasts tomorrow. I had no idea this was a thing but I eat breakfast, I have cameras, I like Instagram, why not? Granted it's going to be pretty boring - bowl of granola while reading the Guardian on iPad, be still my heart - but I manage to spill something every couple of days, so, hey, possible drama.

One hundred likes for those symmetry breakfasts! I do take pictures of meals at times, they go to Facebook. This happens especially when my friend shares her garden tomatoes, basil and peppers. Epic omelets ensue! Don't forgetta the feta, the garlic, the side fried potatoes.

I just like documenting the fun brunches I have - usually some combination of avacodo and odd cheese.

I don't really do Instagram (I suppose I am old?), but I occasionally post photos on FB. But I absolutely go through phases of photographing meals and posting them on YouFood. I don't know if it makes it better or worse that it's basically Instagram-for-food. I 100% do it because when I am trying to be healthy-or-put-together I find it encouraging to do it in community. I like seeing the healthy food other people post, and I am definitely more likely to fix something healthy knowing it's not just visible by me.
