Real World StudiosIf you were a recording musician, how could you not want to record here at least once? A gorgeous environment that's inspiring on mulitple levels. Peter Gabriel deserves more credit than he gets. He's a forward thinking, decent guy who never stops trying. Now - release "Up" dammit.

I remember reading an interview with members of King Crimson, where they said that while Real World was nice, the internal mixes sucked. They were in a cramped old castle with bad headphone mixes and trying to give visual cues to people who could only see Adrian Belew's nose.

I can't comment on the studios, but I think Gabriel gets more than his fair share of credit/props/press. Hell, he's in the group of musicians I wish would just, well, go away.

This site has remained unchanged in almost 2 years. I liked it then but, now it seems kind of sad to me. Not sure exactly why. If you look even in a casual manner it appears that that site is ready to sell everything to you except perhaps live chickens... but, I have't looked hard enough yet.

Anyway, Ovo had a couple of bright spots but, not much you'd hear beyond NPR segways. Plus, I fear that Gabriel & Co. are still trying to shake that whole Y2K dome nonsense, whatever they called it.

So, I would have to agree, somewhat. In the US he doesn't get the credit he deserves for being influencial, forward thinking, and such but, he had his time in the limelight. I don't feel that he's been slighted.

Up was supposed to come out 1998, the same year as Up and Up Up Up Up Up. Perhaps there were just too many "ups" to contend with....

Looking back at music history, there seems to be a negative correlation between the splendor of a recording studio and the crappiness of the music that comes out of it. In the early 1970s, rich rock types began building magnificent and comfortable studios in picturesque locations -- and almost immediately, all rock music began to suck. The greatest tracks ever laid down were done in miserable closets in the Brill Building, Abbey Road, Muscle Shoals, Sun Recording Studio, Motown, etc. No one was comfortable, the pop machine didn't work, the recording engineers were some bald guys left over from the big band era. But still, you can't argue with the product.
