Jay Mohr sells Pete Rose's chewed gum on eBay.

Jay Mohr sells Pete Rose's chewed gum on eBay. There's no satire like self-satire, is there? ESPN talk-show host Jay Mohr had Pete Rose chew a piece on air, took it from him ("I have to touch it so I can tell the story," he said (more or less)), put it in a beaker that Rose then signed, and is now selling it on eBay to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. It's currently at -- no kidding -- US $1,050.00.

(Mohr was inspired by a similar eBay auction, of a piece of gum chewed by Luis Gonzalez, mentioned at the bottom of this roundup. I couldn't find any history of that auction, however; it seems to have been removed....)

Coulda been worse, mattpfeff, someone might've wanted to auction off Lenny Dykstra's tobacco juice.

Or John Kruk's beer-drenched sweat.

John Kruk! I loved that big, beer-gutted mullet-headed yo-yo. I loved that whole damn Phillies team that year as a matter of fact, shame the #@%* Blue Jays beat 'em.
Thanks for that reminder, Ufez.

As a person with CF, I hope it goes to $25,000!!! I don't know what idiot would buy it, but good for him for doing something good with the $$$.

jonmc ... [smacktalk] I liked Wild Thing Williams...but then I was a Jays fan [/smacktalk]. Great Kruk link though, that stu-man is incredible! Makes me wish I had a card I could sign and send to him!

srboisvert-Even us Jay-haters loved the "Wild Thing."
How could you not love a relief pitcher guaranteed to instantly raise the suspense level of the game by walking three batters, then sending the next three down swinging to win. It was an extra-bonus-treat to watch Jim Fregosi swig from his Maalox bottle everytime Mitch took the mound.

I don't know. I always had a soft spot for Darren "Dutch" Daulton. Not so much gut, but almost always (at least) an inch more of curly mullet than kruk.

Golly....being English, I have no idea what this is all about...but I'm presuming baseball (I think pitcher is the clue)

I do recall a story about an obsessive english football (read soccer) fan - who collected the chewed gum output from Manchester Uniteds manager (read Head Coach) Alex Ferguson- after games...

No auctions yet....

mattr -- Pete Rose is the all-time leader in "hits" in American baseball, who became a baseball manager after retiring as a player, and was later banned from baseball (and the Hall of Fame) for allegedly gambling on the sport (though there's never been an official finding of guilt).
