Put constraints on art (or an engineering problem) and people will find beautiful ways around them.

Seems that way. Unattached pieces are a peeve of mine. I don't feel that it's properly "built" if you turn it upside down and parts fall off.

It looks to me like the stems of the plant piece fit into the central hole in the bottom of the three 1x2 plates. Haven't tested it, but it seems like that would hold nicely.
