Between this and the post about wolves mourning I really have to ask how much more of the natural world will be destroyed before the humans realize there is a massive amount of intelligence in our world that can't be quantified in the same way as our own. Maybe in another dimension where LSD had never been made illegal these obvious truths would be apparent to everyone. Nature is a web. Everything can feel. The universe is alive, and we just keep killing it and covering it in concrete and plastic when there's still so much to learn... Or relearn that which was forgotten thousands of years ago. I often wonder if the species intelligence pyramid is inverted... And humans are actually the dumbest lifeforms on earth. These hands, and all this ambition, just to manufacture garbage and promulgate slavery of ourselves and everything else.

OK, sorry, going to pour myself a drink now.

This sound reminds me of an experimental composition from the 60s or 70s. Does anyone know who did this kind of work? I swear I have heard something like it -

Plants using fungi to exchange food, warn of threats, 'relate' across species

How long will it be before we/humans/society realises that sentience, or something that looks a lot like it, is very widespread ... and a lot more resource efficient.

Amazing. A large part of the eerie alien-ness of oceanic life comes from the silence, at least for me. This immediately makes them more relatable. It's just like a noisy forest down there!

Related: the night song of the midshipman fish, apparently for the purpose of attracting a midshipwoman fish.

Well I did want to try LSD, but you've just convinced me to stay away. We're the apex predator. Every animal wants to define their environment. Given the intelligence we had, spiders would wrap us in webs and cows would use us to do... whatever cows need. We're simply the best at existing and reshaping this earth.

That said, this might be worth a trip to WA, assuming Capital City ever reunite and play a show there.

I was prepared to be horrified by some unholy sound, but this is lovely, very soothing. Like a little french horn or tuba piece, maybe part of something by Michael Nyman. Obviously you're not doing it for us, or even know you're doing it, but good job, fishies.

Thank you so much for this post. Fish chorus= great joy. Nature audio is amazing sonic poetry; so many secret worlds out there. It's great that we have the tech and the adventurers out there to find it for us. If you haven't heard it, here's some more great stuff.
