Anesthetized, or asleep? I've never seen a cat sleep like that. (Love the shot from below through the glass.)

For most of them, it's all about the tongue sticking out, which is why this pup has gone semi-viral.

These kind of make me uncomfortable/sad/concerned (minus the shot of the view from below of the kitty on the glass table, that's pretty cute).

Really, Hermione? Why? I've seen cats fall asleep like that many times, esp if they drift off mid-groom.

That's some quality blep you've got there.

I think what's unnerving me is the way all the kitties' eyes look? I am a big fan of the blep, though.

Sometimes my Trilby sleeps with his eyes just slightly open and I can see his eyeballs oscillating and the effect is such that it makes me wonder if I should call in a exorcist.

Remember: they domesticated themselves.

They wanted this.

They will bide their time.

They will shit in your shoes when you're not looking.

They wanted this.

"So, Mr. Mooski, you'll be fed, housed, cleaned up after and given as much affection as you desire, should you find you actually desire it, for which you will agree to be photographed looking, shall we say, silly."

I agree that their eyes look a little weird in some of those shots but I think they're just showing us their third eyelid. All the cats who've had me in their life (many!) have fallen asleep with it showing at some point or another and I'm firmly convinced they do it just to gross us out.

My Siamese sleeps with his eyes open so I can confirm that cats do sleep like this, all the TIME.

I kind of take for granted that cats who go to sleep like this are probably dealing with some kind of nasal congestion -- when your teeth are that sharp, sticking your tongue out is a good way of making sure you don't close your mouth without knowing about it.

/would totally photograph cat if he fell asleep like this.

/though he'd probably sense it and move. He's uncanny like that.

I just see a page of cats who totally meant to fall asleep like that.

They will not find out that you took a silly picture of them.
They will continue to sleep a lot.

At least you get a picture out of the first scenario...

Hell, my cat has fallen asleep mid-antic. One time he'd clambered into the gap between the couch and bookcase and braced himself on the bookcase, waiting to fall down on his sister when she wandered by. Only he dozed off and fell asleep like that.

Scrambles likes to sleep in some very weird positions:

Sometimes he prefers no neck support

Sometimes he likes his face in a three-ring binder
or a wall

Or on the arm of a chair

But mostly, he likes to streeetch
