Can't We Just Drone This Guy?

In his wide-ranging recent interview with New York Magazine, President Obama perhaps facetiously claimed to be "glad the left pushes me on [drone assassinations]. I don’t ever want to get to the point where we’re that comfortable with killing. It’s not why I wanted to be president, to kill people." Nevertheless, the US under Obama has killed at least 2,500 people it claims were combatants, as well as around 1,000 civilians; Obama believes that drone assassinations save lives since they replace larger airstrikes. But how comfortable are American officials with drone assassinations? A right-wing website claims that when Julian Assange began releasing the State Department cables on Wikileaks, then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton asked "Can't we just drone this guy?"

Clinton says she does not remember the incident, and says she was joking if she did say it.

This post was deleted for the following reason: This is a super weird "somebody said she said a thing" to hang a post around; topic's already been discussed in recent election threads and should go ahead and stay there. -- cortex

As far as I can tell, there is zero evidence for this statement besides "sources," and yet it's popping up on Google and elsewhere...does this canard really need further circulation?

(My apologies if stronger evidence has turned up since I last checked.)
