I don't see Tantalos. How tantalizing.

The other art on his site is quite good too; like this parable in the style of a video game.

can someone explain to me how "Zeus" is supposed to work? Because that indeed was NOT what I expected

(actually, after some quick mythology googling, I got it. so creative)

For Zeus I thought it was the animals and his lovers, Io the cow, Leda and the Swan.

Owing to some fairly desultory clicking and dragging I didn't clock what was going on until I hit Zeus, meaning I had to go back and play with the others some more. Great, innovative stuff!

Inspired, no doubt, by Pippin Barr's brilliant Let's Play Ancient Greek Punishment.

I appreciate how the pixels are always square and the art is always on a grid. Indie game "pixel art" so often cheats by doing stuff like mixing in native resolution when scrolling or using different grids for foreground sprites and background art.

I guess that's fine, but it seems like in that case they're just using pixel art to save on effort when creating art. Pixel art is more effective when you're using it to recreate the feel of an old video game. If you just want simple art, make simple art at native resolution - it's much more artistically rewarding if indie game developers can solve the problem of how to make simple art each in their own unique way instead of just tossing faux pixel art at the problem.
