Today, the Kagurazaka district in Tokyo had its annual Bakeneko Festival. Pictures from last year.

The mythical origins of Bakeneko and Nekomata.

Why Kagurazaka? The social satire 1906 novel Wagahai wa Neko de Aru, or I Am a Cat by Natsume Sōseki took place in Kagurazaka.
Available in ebook format on Archive.org.

If you haven't yet read Wagahai wa neko de aru, and you love cats and good writing, you really must check it out. Simply wonderful.

This festival looks fun.
