Thanks for posting this. I'm a big fan. I hope she gets justice.

I've only a passing acquaintance with Kesha's work, like the hits big enough to penetrate even to me, but I have to say, her performance of Dylan's "It Ain't Me, Babe" from the 2016 Billboard Music awards (arranged and accompanied by Ben Folds) is utterly breathtaking and worth watching even if you aren't a Kesha fan or familiar with the original.

I've sort of been following this story for a while now, but the FPP article is the most detailed I've read about the entire situation and my heart breaks for Kesha being caught in this situation. And as always I continue to wonder just what the real story is with Dr. Luke. Living in this patriarchy, I'm pretty sure I know, actually.

Luke’s team uses this to say that after the time she says she was raped, in 2005, she swore under oath that they had never had sex and that she either was lying then or is now.

Those statements aren't mutually exclusive!!!

I searched for Kesha earlier, looking for her wikipedia page, and the first hit was this article and the second hit was the Daily Mail article cashing in on this article, with a headline along the lines of "omfg Kesha said she starved herself to be thin".

I already have below-zero expectations for that exploitative garbage fire filthrag of a publication, but to read this article - which is sweet and beautiful and tender and made my heart hurt inside me for Kesha - and take only that away from it is to lack both basic reading comprehension and any measure of human feeling.

And thank you hippybear for sharing that performance - I've been re-sharing it all day 'cause it's too great not to pass on.

I am glad that what I've read about Kesha being far more capable than her initial public persona indicated appears accurate. The sexpot-party-girl image certainly moved CDs, but somehow I thought I saw it as being very strained, a "I am blinking SOS in Morse code WHY AREN'T YOU RESPONDING" look in her eyes. And that is aside from the Dr. Luke sexual allegations -- which would not surprise me at all to be completely accurate -- but just from the way that the music business chews up and shits out artists after extracting every possible easily obtainable dollar from them.

The best of luck to her in gaining some control over the rest of her life.

Delfin, you touch on an important point. I am with Kesha 100%, but her music is hard for me to listen to because so many of her songs are about blackout sex. I want to support her, but listening to that aspect of her party girl persona makes me really uncomfortable, especially in light of what has happened to her since her albums were released.

I haven't listened to her music, but have followed the horribleness, and this gets worse when you consider how many of those songs were written by Dr. Luke, and how much of her presentation as an artist seems to have been designed by him.

Kesha's voice, even in the stupid pop songs, always gives me frisson. No idea why, but it always does. One of the only voices that does it for me reliably. Her career has been so, so, sad, and it's clear that she's tremendously talented. I'm looking hopefully forward to the upcoming glorious Kesha renaissance.
