This was just empty land. Now there’s a hole there. That’s life.

The good folks at Cards Against Humanity are digging a Holiday Hole. As long as you keep donating, they'll keep digging.

From the Q&A:

Why aren’t you giving all this money to charity?
Why aren’t YOU giving all this money to charity? It’s your money.

This post was deleted for the following reason: yeah, god bless 'em and all but I think we can pass on this as a candidate for an exception to the fundraiser proscription -- cortex

So this is an active fundraiser for a hole in the ground? Does it get around the rules on the basis of sheer asinine pointlessness and privilege? Or....

I have real problems with CAH as a game. It seems to destroy community more than it creates it, and I've never seen a game of it where someone doesn't end up with Major Sad Face at some point while playing it. I'm at the point where if I'm at a gathering of people who want to play it, I will refuse even if I'm the only person who isn't playing. It hurts my hippie soul.

On the other hand, the CAH people seem to be doing interesting things with their money, and have been for a while. I won't be pitching them money to help make the hole deeper, but I will watch with interest to see what they do with the money they raise from this. Even if all they do is pocket the funds, at least that will be interesting on some level.

Much more interesting to me than actually playing that hateful game.

Everything these guys do with their money is funnier than the game itself. God bless you, Holiday Hole.

I guess you have to respect guys who keep coming up with more innovative ways to be an asshole?

Yeah I think this is pretty much directly in contradiction to the "no active fundraisers" rule.

What if you dig so deep you hit hot magma?
At least then we’d feel something.

I want to be a better, more optimistic person, but this whole thing is comedy gold to my high-school cynical self.

This isn't a fundraiser, or at least not explicitly.

Knowing the CAH folks, they're probably donating the money to charity after the fact, but on the surface (beneath it?) you're giving them money to dig a hole. It's more like e-commerce than fundraising!
