RIP Czech rock guitar legend Radim Hladik (1946–2016)

Hladik, who died Sunday from lung disease, would have turned 70 next Tuesday. He was considered his country’s equivalent of a Jeff Beck or Eric Clapton, but performed in relative obscurity behind the Iron Curtain.

Hladik was best known for his prog rock group Blue Effect, which opened in Prague for The Beach Boys in 1969, was later banned by the Czech government, then reestablished by him in this century with much younger musicians. Videos like Ej padá padá rosenka show him still playing strongly in his 60s. [Full concert from 2007 here.]

In the years between bands, Hladik became a folk guitarist, performing material like his classic ballad from the 1970s, Čajovna ("tea room").

Thanks for this, LeLiLo; Mr Hladik was clearly a rather fine guitarist.
