Survivors speak highly of it

Austrian ski resort Obergurgl-Hochgurgl has three live webcam feeds to its guest rooms; in 2015, "some idiots" photobombed all three. The photobombing is now under control, so this year's video shows the new extreme ski run.

Fake. You don't get chicken-headed cows that far north.

While this smacks of a manufactured viral video, I can't deny the genuine humor, beatiful Alpine vistas, and the sheer Österreichlichkeit of it all. Not to mention the great quality of those webcams!

Yeah, they're skiing. Everything looks normal. What's the big deal?

Shooting people who are parachuting is a war crime.

I stand corrected. Carry on.

So: sometimes it's permissible to fire on parachutists.

But dropping live pianos on infantry? That's right out.

The more you know...

I ober gurgled and hoch gurgled until I choked. And I almost didn't watch the second video...! A narrow escape!

"Hochgurgl" going into my personal lexicon was one of roughly 137 things I enjoyed about these two videos. The chicken cow was another.

The boat and the shark did it for me.

That was real neat, made more so because I've been there. Wonderful place. But I don't think web cams had been invented when I was there and no pianos fell out of the sky.

Argh, just a little bit of blur, light effects and dulling of the colors would have made all of those CGI elements way less CGI-tastic. Still a fun video, though!

Hoch is high and ober is upper. It's very common especially in ski/mountain areas to have a village above the main town with that style name e.g. Lech/Oberlech, where I've gone skiing a couple of times. This is the first triple one I've seen though, where there's Obergurgl and Gurgl, and Hochgurgl above them both.

Also according to Google Maps, David's Hutte is in a place called Zeppelin. German truly is the most metal of all languages.

And now I have an urge to play skifree. So much for productivity this morning....

It's really not as dangerous as it looks. Orcas are fearsome predators if you're a seal but there are practically no recorded incidents of them attacking humans and none at all on ski slopes (to the best of my knowledge, but note that records from before 2003 are somewhat spotty.)
