Ahhhhhh Synaesthesia.... Industrial Strength Colour-Note Organ - Pictures to Sound. Make yourself some sci-fi soundtracks. Worth the download, although I expect you'll be the judge of that....

pretty cool. there's a plug-in for fruity loops (also no version for expensive, non-upgradeable transluscently colored or desk lamp shaped computers) that does the same kind of thing. it reads images, but it's not as configurable or as real-time editable as this one.

from my brief glance at this, this seems like a poor mans metasynth

(which fufills that nice mac port for you, Settle)

Also, for more audio fun, you can actually open aiff files in photoshop (as raw data) play with it in photoshop (for example, a gaussian blur gives a rough approximation of a reverb effect), and then save it again with the headers intact.
