A steam train chugs and tootles through the Worcestershire countryside

After previous shows on buses, boats and sleighs, this season's Slow TV offering from the BBC is a one hour train ride on the Flying Scotsman (trailer), plying the Severn Valley Railway from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster. Locomotive 4472, built in 1924, was the first train to exceed 100mph (in 1934) and, post-restoration, hauls carriages around various lines while drawing substantial crowds and train enthusiasts (extremely English scene). More: big steam, with a news helicopter, leaving a station, ascending Shap, and again, and steaming past.

Lots of lovely videos there. One more, from Bridgnorth this Christmas, of the other heritage railway there: the cliff railway from a B&B's window.

Lovely. Sounds like the left main rod bearing is a little loose, though. They should look at that.

The Norwegian slowtv stuff that is(was?) on netflix was a huge hit with my wife. We couch napped on a train ride to Oslo several times.

So, it just finished. Much tweeting and as it happened, much lovely countryside and steam train shots (especially from the drones) and more people than I've ever seen in rural Worcestershire.

It's repeated again, BBC4, New Years Day at 9pm - this time it's the full no-explanations Slow TV version.

In other slow TV news, James May's The Reassembler series is back for a second run. You can watch the train set episode on YouTube here.
