Has Axl Rose Gone to Far? MeFi favorites, the Replacements' Paul Westerberg and Tommy Stinson are said to have worked on Westerberg's new album, much to the chagrin of Axl Rose, Stinson's new boss. Did Rose stop a potential Replacement's Reunion? Does anyone care that the Sex Pistols are going to tour again?

I was surprised when I heard Westerberg was putting an album out on Vagrant. Cool.

As for Axl Rose (whose name is an anagram for Oral Sex) being involved in this little spat, I'm surprised he's even around, I assumed he would have been dead or in jail by now.

So funny you should mention All shook down, lbergstr. I argued for a long time to my wife that that was Axl Rose singing backup on Someone Take the Wheel. I still think it's him, but I have moved on to other obsessions.

I never fell for the whole G n' R thing. When Axl sings he sounds like a fucking kazoo.
As for the Pistols, hopelessly old, fat, and anachronistic or not, I'll bet they still put on a good show. Sign me up.
They're too old to not play their songs now. Much better value for your money than in `78.

So lbrgstr is the other guy that liked All Shook Down; I thought I was the only one. Tight tunes, clean production, Westerberg's greasy thumbprints all over that record.

Points to tommasz for a reference to the They Might Be Giants Song "We're the Replacements."

When I was like 9 years old I bought the They Might Be Giants "Don't Let's Start" three inch (!) CD EP with that song on it. I didn't realize they were singing about THE Replacements until years later (at which point I had been a Replacements fan for many years.)

Further Replacements-related weirdness: Tommy Stinson played bass on Puff Daddy's "All About the Benjamins" rock remix, and briefly appears in the music video.

Tacodog, lbrgstr and jonmc -- count me in on the All Shook Down love fest.

Grew up listening to the 'Mats. Can't imagine what my musical life would be like without them. Paul's solo stuff may not be quite the same as the old Replacements' material, but it sure isn't without its own merits. I think I feel a trip to Chicago's Virgin Megastore coming on.

heh, I grew up in Hawaii and spent my time trying not to get beat up by Samoans who liked "Jawaiian" music. As a short, skinny guy, this is not an easy task.

I *heart* the Replacements. I got to see them once, at the Ulster Performing Arts Center in NY, in 1989. My friends and I were waiting outside -- suddenly, the band came strolling on up from the bar across the street, cool as could be. I got to shake Tommy's hand before they went in and played a great set.

Does anybody know more about Paul Westerberg's Grandpa Boy project? I saw this article at Flak Magazine, but upon going to the label's site, couldn't figure out how to order the darn thing.

There are three extremely 'Mats-esque tracks available for download in .MP3.

When Paul quits being mopey (i.e. the last solo album), he still rox my sox.
