Whatever makes it stick to skin also makes it stick to leather car interiors and in such a way that it doesn't seem to ever come off.

Whatever makes it stick to skin also makes it stick to leather car interiors

skin on skin contact - your body heat/moisture warms up the leather, the pores in the leather open up as if the creature were alive again, the make-up seeps into the pores where the animal would have lubricated itself (think of the oils on your own skin, for example). by the time you get back to trying to wipe it off, the long dead skin's all sealed right up again, enclosing most of the make-up and only leaving small tips of it peeking out (presumably why it looks faded)

same principle applies to waxing to leather goods. layer the wax, turn on the blowdryer to get the wax into liquid form and open up those pores for it to seep into. this property of opening and closing carcass skin is why they say leather breathes :)
