"We know this news will feel sad to many of you, especially our regular authors." On March 1st digital storytelling site Cowbird will become a read-only archive.

Co-creator Jonathan Harris relayed this decision while cautioning us about the addictive powers of new media.

Previously, in 2012.

Wow, I haven't thought about Cowbird in years. I completely forgot it was a thing. I used to write on it in the early years as an old man but then just lost interest in both Cowbird and being an old man.

I have never heard of it. I wish I had!

IMDB forums and Cowbird in the same period for the same reason. Will MetaFilter also become a victim of new media?

Oh! This makes me sad! Cowbird was a safe outlet for creative expression for me--it struck this perfect balance where I could document my personal stories and still feel private, but not anonymous.

I will go on record as willing to double my contribution to stop this from occurring.

Actually, put me on record as doubling it, because MeFi has more than doubled in value to me in the last 3 months as a place for sanity and respite.
