To defuse some of the recent anti-mexican sentiment provoked by 45, talk show host and cheese merchant Conan O'Brien went to Mexico City to tape a show with an all-mexican cast and crew.

I haven't watched Conan in years, but I know he has a good heart, and the monologue killed.

Watching all of this the last couple days, the thing that is poignant and obvious and ironic and tragic and wonderful is that Mexico is going to be fine, perhaps better off, over the next four years. It's Americans that are screwed by the hateful orange emperor and his xenophobic nationalism.

Oh, clicking the circle or its name works, too.

I think that depends on what happens with trade deals between the US and Mexico. The US is Mexico's #1 export destination at $291B. The second is Canada, at $24.5B, which could also be hurt by US/Mexico conflicts, given that it's most likely that goods travel via rail and road to Canada, not by sea (though that is an option, but probably far from ideal). The 3rd largest export destination is China, at $7.89B.

Looking the other way, U.S. exports to Mexico account for 15.7% of overall U.S. exports in 2015 (Archive.org link, just in case this disappears from US Trade Representative.gov). Really, it looks like stricter import rules or tariffs could hurt Mexico a lot.

A lot of the US/Mexico trade is them exporting Crude from the Gulf to US refineries (also in the Gulf) and then the US turning around and selling the refined petroleum products back to Mexico. This is a pretty well-established supply chain and disrupting it is probably the last thing the big US oil refiners want to do. We can trust that the GOP will have their best interests in mind in any re-negotiations.

Conan blends in so well, in Mexico. He's like the anti-Waldo.

This was great. I think every show should do a sincere earnest residency in Mexico. Still probably won't watch Conan, but it's good to know that he has not changed one iota in the past ten years, AND that he can do cross-cultural comedy. His very body has a universal comedic quality to it, and he plays it well and times it perfectly for laughs. Like he has forever.

Though I did like his face with a beard!

I happen to have lost interest in Conan except for his remotes & other improvised segments, like Clueless Gamer. I DVR'd this episode.. one of my favorites: this awesome dude's contribution to The Wall fund.
