One week, 100 people 2017

Every aspiring artist has heard the advice, ‘Carry a small sketchbook at all times!’. We’re all told ‘Practice drawing every day!’. This is of course great advice. But sometimes we need a little extra motivation.
OneWeek100People is an annual sketch challenge first proposed by Marc Taro Holmes, in an effort to encourage urban sketchers to get more practice including humans in their art. The challenge: Sketch 100 people in one week. posted by rebent (5 comments total) 15 users marked this as a favorite

This is also very much what the cartoonist Boulet advices in how to beat writer's block: Step 9 Always carry a notebook.

This is a really neat idea!

I wonder how well it would work to apply the same concept to writing little character descriptions? I used to be semi-decent at drawing in high school, but nowadays I can barely draw a straight line...

I like this idea, and might give it a shot since I was just talking with a friend about drawing more. Trickier as a work-from-home person since I don't usually see that many people in the course of a week unless you count the misc. crowd in and around the grocery store.

cortex, I've tried solving the working-from-home thing by freeze-framing videos or attempting to reverse-storyboard movies.

I definitely need to try drawing more people. At one point I thought I would try drawing a series of women in science (from their photos online) but I disliked my first one so much that I stopped. I need to get over that and keep pushing on.

It's mentioned in the original link but, https://www.sktchy.com/ , has been fantastic for me since last year's Inktober. People post portraits/selfies and some other pictures for other people to draw.

I have a tiny 4x6 sketchbook and have been making little portraits (less than in October, but more than the months before). You can see some people's art inspired by sktchy with https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/sktchyapp/ or #sktchyapp

Additionally, their support team seems really responsive, I sent in some suggestions and had a little discussion with one of their community managers.

I'm tempted to do some quicker sketches and join in this project.
