I don't get it. I mean, some of them are sort of hilarious in their wrongness -- the "Total Recall" x-ray machine is actually a reference to Bojack Horseman because it has a 2-kid Vincent Adultman? -- but most of them are too dumb to be parody.

I think they're projecting (geddit!?)

I like this account a lot. You couldn't characterize it as anything beyond surface-level - "Trainspotting" has a literal train - but the trio that makes up Inception is quite inspired.

This totally goes with Total Recall, dir. Paul Verhoeven, 1990.*

* Or Department of Homeland Security Theater, 2001 onwards.

I like this. Sometimes when my wife and I are watching a thing she'll be like "oh, that's a reference to such-and-such" and I'll just sort of go "uh huh" and quietly say to myself "no, it isn't, honey." because my wife, god bless her, knows absolutely nothing at all about pop culture.

Is it your wife's twitter account?

This is just a sucky attempt at cashing in on a bit of Twitter wit where you take screenshots of something and title it with the movie or tv show it reminds you off, hoping for hilarity. It works well when it's just a bit of spontaneous wit inbetween despair at Trump's America and whatever pop culture meme is doing the rounds today, not so much in a concentrated dose of humourless like here.

Man, everyone being like "that's not funny" it's exactly like that scene in Goodfellas.

Eh, it's hit or miss but I'll take it over most of what's on Twitter 24/7. Trying to get all mouth-frothy about it is a waste of energy, really.

These are pretty good though some seem to rely too heavily on the joke being that the episode is 20 years old and it is 'referencing' a new movie. Am I crazy or are the American Beauty ones actually correct and if so is that some trick to make me look for the other correct ones or should I question everything I think I know and I'm not crazy Marge, you're crazy.

This is my favourite, though it turns out it's not from them.

They're cashing in on the cashing inners!

But blind, frothing rage over molehills is the purpose of Twitter.

I found the mix of "random picture being a bit amusing when placed in movie context" with "I just discovered that Simpson is overflowing with movie references" a bit distracting at first, but then I got to the one where a very explicit Simpsons reference to that old Westworld movie from 1973 was labelled "Westworld (2016)" and went "did this person just insert an obscure joke in what's until now appeared to be a stream of mostly low-hanging fruit, and if so, did I just miss a whole bunch of obscure jokes before this one? or are they just this clueless?" and had to bail out.
