"You come at the king, you best not miss." ~~ Omar

Oh, bless your soul. My Omar crush knows no reasonable limits. When I bought a kayak, I named it Omar and felt especially badass paddling on the Charles and yelling, "That's right. Omar coming!"

When Omar moved to Puerto Rico and found domestic bliss with Renaldo (around 2:19:20 in the video) I was so happy for him, but kept waiting for a Very Bad Thing to happen. Being The Wire, good things don't happen to anyone but MAN I wanted to see him take everyone down and walk away, whistling.

Thanks for this.

I love Omar so we named our dog "Omar" and my son yells "Omar's coming" when he catching up to me on a trail or runs upstairs when I open the fridge. It brings me a little joy every time.

This is everything. It took all I had to keep watching after he was killed. I knew it was an unavoidable eventuality and I still wasn't prepared for it.

So a friend of mine recently suggested that Omar isn't whistling "The Farmer in the Dell;" he's whistling "A Hunting We Will Go," which has the same melody.

That never occurred to me, perhaps because as a kid I knew a guy who we would all torture by softly humming or whistling "The Farmer in the Dell" when he was near. We did this because of a nickname bestowed by a funny-but-cruel gym teacher; the guy's last name was D'Addario and so he became "Hi Ho," as in Hi Ho D'Addario. He hated the nickname and we thought it was hilarious.

Another victim of that gym teacher had a name with the same cadence as "Joe Brunicelli," and for some reason he would always get addressed as "Joe Brunicelli with the pickle on the belly." Naturally we called him Picklebelly. He wound up having a job where he was often present in the background of photos of an extremely famous person. Various of my circle would text each other photos of him as we found them, always captioned "PICKLEBELLY!!!!!" Good times.

I've never watched The Wire because it began to feel like grim, oppressively-homeworky viewing and I'm more in the 'desperately escaping from grim real life' tv viewing faction.

But now i've watched this whole thing and am in love with Omar Little, and wish to watch him forever so I guess this is just my life now.

It's missing the part where he leaves Baltimore. I want my money back.

beccaj: can your dog come play with my dogs Avon and Stringer? We can watch dogs play and tumble AND quote The Wire endlessly, and it will be epic. Don't forget the Honey Nut Cheerios.

In my mind, Omar, Avon, and Stringer the dogs are teacup Yorkie puppies.

Raggedy-ass puppy-mill dogfighting Yorkies with a taste for human blood, maybe.

How you expect to run with the wolves at night, when you spend all day sparring with the puppies?

My super smart sleuth of a dog, Kima Greggs, also wants to come.

There's a MeFi whose dog's name is McNulty, wish I could remember who.

I always think one of the funniest things about The Wire is all fans completely ignore the dockworker's storyline. Like, get me back to Stringer, Avon and Omar already.

2nd season was the best season IMO. However it needs the first season as a foil; standalone it wouldn't be nearly as good.

Well, I did nickname one of Avon's litter mates Ziggy, do to his goofy nature and the fact he was one of the runts... Found him a good home, and he goes by a different name now, hope my gentle mocking didn't scar him too bad. I also hope one day his new owner gets a pet duck. Just so the karmic circle can come back around.

There's a parking garage in SF that has a light-up sign that says "Car Coming" when someone's coming out of the garage (here it is on Google Street View). I've been tempted to get a stepladder and change it around to read "Omar Comin".

OP here -- I didn't want to comment in the thread, it's really been fun to watch though. I watched the whole Omar supercut, but then that led me to watching other youtube vids of the show; I'd forgotten how good it was, truth be told. The Wire was the first TV series I ever gave a chance, I always figured that pay tv series would just be another suck like commercial tv was (and almost certainly is -- I've not watched in decades) but I had two friends I really trust tell me that I ought to give it a shot. And free with Amazon prime so no big deal there.

Omar was my favorite character, a hood-rat Robin Hood. (Maybe Robin Hood-Rat?) The scene that always held with me was when he was imprisoned on that trumped-up murder rap, and his blind angel sent in those two characters to help him, and then how the whole scene came down in the cafeteria line -- gawd. I *loved* those two characters who helped him out, huge men, 1000 yard eyes, totally believable, totally scary as shit.

But scary. You want scary? Look at Snoop. She was scary. Damn. That was one scary girl. Is one scary girl. And in going through all that I've gone through I've found out her life story, and the part she played was the life she was born into and lived -- born a premmie crack baby, fed with tiny dropper-fuls of food, imprisoned @ 14 for second degree murder ... One hell of a life. A fairy tale -- she meets Michael K. Williams (Omar, who was acting, and acting that convinced us all) and he gets her the gig on "The Wire" and she gets to play her life, didn't even have to act. (As I read about her, I kept hearing Ringo singing Buck Owens: "All I Gotta Do Is Act Naturally") Even her name -- Snoop -- that was give to her by her uncle, it was/is her real name; he said she looked like Snoopy, and it stuck. I'm betting that if you turned her purse out right now you'd find a straight razor. I think that Felicia "Snoop" Pearson is worthy an FPP all her own, though maybe someone has already put one up.

Anyways, been fun to read here, glad there's so much Omar love here -- I sortof thought there would be.
