I remember once ending up in a deserted subway station in Berlin. The odd thing being that I've never actually been to Berlin, and I'm not even sure if they have a subway there.

So I did some Googling, and I found this guy's homepage. Looks like it was last updated about a year ago, and parts of it are under construction. The page is pretty cool, though it's a usability nightmare. (Usabiltity's overrated, anyway).

His name is Danny Gomez, and he's a 22 year old Chilean art student, living in Sweden with his wife and child.

::fes pops in from self-imposed mefi "vacation"::

The Dead played Alpine Valley, Wisconsin in fall of '86; I was there with my brother and his two friends, one of whom is quite possible the funniest human alive. This story isn't about him.

We were camping for the weekend in the prodigious parking lot, Saturday night show done, tickets for the Sunday afternoon show nestly sweatily in our pockets. We are all dressed in jeans and bathrobes, clustered around a desultory campfire made from freshly-peeled beer bottle labels and green wood stolen from the golf course that butts up against Alpine. We are on perhaps three hits apiece, blotter with Mickey Mouse on it. It's pretty tasty, as Dead acid tends to be.

I am mostly watching the show - a steady stream of passersby dressed primarily in hand-me-down SCA-garb lined with aluminum foil, glowsticks a-spin everywhere, engaging in a Brownian movement of full-on party tinged with not-so-surreptitious commerce. It as if my lawn chair is levitating perhaps 2 meters off the ground, so crystaline and encompassing is my vantage. But the air around me seems to solidify a bit, so I follow the vaguely maroon trail left by my brother and the not-as-funny friend, they having departed for parts unknown perhaps a year/second previously by way of a change of scenery/bit of fresh air.

I find them sitting crossleggged on a small wooden bridge arching over an ambery creek. They are both silent, listening intently to the sussurus of frogs filling the night with their talk. I plunk down and ask after what's up.

"Listening to the frogs, fes." says my bro.
"Why?" I ask.
"They're speaking."
"What are they saying?"
"I don't know - it not English."
"It's German," says the friend.

A pause. "You took a bunch of German in high school, right?" asks my brother. I nod affirm.
"Well?" he says expectantly.
"Well what? I ask.
"Well, what are they saying?"

I spent the next half hour or so translating Frog German for my brother. To be honest, it was mostly just chitchat.

::fes pops back out::
