It's catchy, but I prefer the funk-rock of You Kill Me

It's nice, I suppose, but it's no It's Raining Men.

When did Bill Murray transmogrify into Playskool Mister Rogers?

Oh god, Big Al - great video. I never knew Shaffer co-wrote that song!

"Why must you hurt me - and on gay pride day!?"

That was just what I need this morning. Thanks.

It was fun seeing all the references the animator packed in to the street scene and the little cultral jabs, e.g., the interracial gay couple atop the birthday cake. But my heart skipped a beat when I saw the parade balloon beaver meeting his elephant counterpart. Canada-US/Trudeau-Trump reference, I thought, or homage to Shaffer's homeland and... Bill Murray's politics??? That can't be right. On further reflection, I realized that it was a ground hog and the elephant from Larger Than Life. On the one hand, yay no GOP reference! On the other hand, boo, no beaver balloon.

Nice.

However, I think people are confusing their rodents. Some of those "groundhogs" are clearly gophers (referencing Caddyshack).

And I believe the "interracial gay couple atop the wedding cake" are in fact CBS Orchestra / World's Most Dangerous Band guitarists Sid McGinnis and Felicia Collins, while drummer Anton Fig is drawn into the scene by two sidewalk chalk artists.

Meanwhile, watch for:
  • The Stay Puft Marshmallow truck passing by
  • A certain gap-toothed talking head on the teevy
  • Bushwood Country Club County Bank
  • Gopher/groundhog on flag
  • Steve Zissou as graffiti artist
  • Punxsutawney Times at the newsstand
  • Scrooged movie poster
  • Stripes movie posters
Now, if the sax player on the unicycle, the mime playing the flute, and "Timber!" reference anything, you'll have to tell me.

I love this game.

Thanks, Ear.

Schlock.

I found that confusing is it meant to be a parody? The song and backing are the most innane innocuous MOR rubbish around. How did Murray think that was a good idea?

And I always found Paul Shaffer sort of off-putting on Letterman. The mediocrity of this song confirms that it was founded.

Murray and Schaffer go way back; check the piano player in the old "Star Wars" lounge singer skit.

I'm a Hiram Bullock man, myself.

What about the new wave edge of Dress Cool, featuring Sade?

Bill Murray is 66, Paul Shaffer is 67. I noticed it with my own father, but after a certain age we all... soften.

You're just being Canadianist.

Oh no, what's the shelf life on Johnny Rotten? Has he gone rotten? Soft and mushy? Someone in England, check the date on the bottom of his shoe.

I'm damn near sixty and should be in the target for this. The song is only OK but the video is pretty good. But it's nowhere near as weird and as charming as the Christmas special Murray did for Netflix. I could watch that every year (while wearing a red toque).

I think you have to fight it. Bob Dylan has done some of the very best work of his career since he turned 60.

Oh no, Shaffer's solo work has always been garbage. I think he's spent so much time playing the best of the most creative minds of the last 100 years of music that the only way for him to feel like he's doing something new is to make the most average music in existence.

I did come across his 70's sitcom with Greg Evigan about rock guys tryin' ta make it, which looks amazing. You have to admit that song sounds like a Pepsi commerical, though.
