Bonkers or BubbleYum anyone?

Bonkers or BubbleYum anyone? What a relief to know I'm not the only one who remembers Bonkers or made weird things with fruit rollups. And there are even downloadable retro-mercials!

No mention of the old Hubba Bubba commercials? The old west ads with the Gum Fighter, who would stare down his enemy on a dusty street and blow non-stick bubbles? No?

Ok, everybody point at the silly Texan and laugh...

Forsooth, Hubba Bubba gum was a magical and yet strangely disturbing mega-sugar item. It was surpassed in ickiness only by Big League Chew, which was a sort of bubble gum Everest, looming brass-ring like, teasing you, taunting you: "See how much you can fit in your mouth at once!"

I miss Bubs Daddy myself. Sugary slender sticks that came in all flavors and colors. We'd line up for these and for Marathon bars at the store right next to my Catholic grade school.

This site has the best online gum selection I've seen, but you gotta buy in bulk. Small price to pay in order to get something called "Bubaloo Blueberry," with its liquid center and what appears to be Spanish packaging. Viva la gum!

Bubs daddy and Big League chew get my cavity-laden seal of approval.

Anyone remember a gum called Tidal Wave? It was gum with some sort of fruity juice inside. You bit into it and it would squirt out. I always imagined that it was similar to biting into Toucan Sam's prostate.

Chewels, Freshen Up, Tidal Wave, Bubaloo...the squirting gums were really pushing the envelope of gum propriety. And kids today think the Herbal Essence commercials are suggestive...
