Toyota Prius is a hybrid electric car developed by Toyota and manufactured since 1997. Initially offered as a 4-door sedan, it's been built only as a five-door hatchback since 2003.
The mid-2000s Toyota Prius is a weird-looking box of metalish/ plastic -- Viewed from the front, it slopes upward with odd swollen curves. From the back, it is a chunky, pug-nosed, rather piggish looking automobile--

From the marketing angle, the Prius’s visual weirdness is a selling point. Other car companies have designed their hybrid vehicles to blend in with the bland smoothness of the usual midsized car while the folk at Toyota ditched that thinking to carved out the Prius to be a somewhat strange looking cumquat. Its distinctiveness is one reason for the car’s success.
