Huh. My dog does something like this when we turn on music, but we've always interpreted it as "boy, he really hates music" rather than an attempt to contribute.

We had a pug that would do this when our parrotlet really got going. For a long time, he wouldn't do it when we were out there, just if we were in the other room. We thought he was singing, my dad was convinced he didn't like the birdsong.
