ASH used REPAIR. It's super effective!

This Is How You Fix A Really Busted Copy Of Pokémon Red [Kotaku] “Grant Haack, who goes by Snip3r95 on Imgur, found an old Pokémon cartridge while wandering around a flea market. The game only set them back $5, but actually getting the Game Boy classic up and running required some serious elbow grease. “It was at the bottom of a bin and in pretty bad shape,” Haack wrote in a post on Imgur [Full Image Album] documenting the project. The game wouldn’t properly boot up, so they unscrewed the back and dismantled the game to reveal a bunch of dirt and rust underneath.”

I have done some weird ass repairs on old equipment before, but grinding away the epoxy to expose the leadframe and then soldering on magnet wire is just hnnnnnnngggg my hands are shaking just thinking about it. Good job, hyperdedicated Pokemon player.

I believe Chardonizard has been pretty popular.

Grant Haack, who goes by Snip3r95

Why would you need or want an alias when blessed with a name like that?

When your birth name's not l337 enough you gotta make do.

Chardonizard is lovely, but with this hot weather I'm partial to Pidgey Grigio.

I want to know what he soaked the board in to get rid of all that rust.

It's overrated. The Shirazard it replaced was much better.

Too much Oak in the Chardonizard.

Shirazard

I could tell you some interesting stories about Shirazard, but it will have to wait until tomorrow.

This is the person I want with me in the bunker after the end comes.... well actually I'd prefer him to have a shop just outside my bunker where I could trade him clean water or old paperbacks for various microprocessor repair services. That way I don't have to deal with him except when I need to. But then he'd probably get bored because I tend to take care of things pretty well so most of my bunker electronics (video games included) would likely outlast me so he might not stick around if I really did need him. *sigh*

So, being ooold and unhip to the ways of the Gameboy and Pokemon...is there anything actually that special about this cartridge to make it worth the effort, or was Grant just bored? (No judgement here. I've been that bored before.)

I am also pretty unhip but I think he was just bored.

Acetone, according to the imgur comments.
