Here’s Why Juicero’s Press is So Expensive

I'm still going to make fun of the Juicero, but these photos of its interior are fascinating. The $400 Wifi-enabled juicer has been the laughingstock of the Internet for a week now, including here on MeFi, but it's actually a beautifully-designed piece of engineering. Sam Kriss called it a Rube Goldberg machine, "which is annoying because I love Rube Goldberg machines".

I feel like the conclusion here is kind of like a realization I had about Kickstarter a couple years ago. Throwing a incredible amount of money at people whose only experience is managing projects with a hundredth of the budget you've just given them usually ends up with something that's massively overbuilt to the point that it loses sight of its original goals and is still somehow over budget while underperforming.
